Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco was unimpressed with his side’s performance after they lost 1-0 to Serie B leaders Cagliari on Thursday night.
Marco Sau netted the only goal against his former club to send the Neroverdi out of the Coppa Italia following a below par performance.
“First off, I did not like that performance at all,” Di Francesco told Rai Sport following the defeat.
“Cagliari deserved the win. They showed more desire than us throughout the match.
“I do not accept such a showing from my team.”
Sassuolo, who have been exceeding all expectations in Serie A this season, will be hoping Thursday’s result was a once off.
“I hope this serves as a lesson to my players,” Di Francesco added.
“Performances like this are something I never want to see from them.
“In all honesty, I expected an assured showing tonight.
“Unfortunately, and rather clearly, I did not get that.”
