Fiorentina are stepping up their pursuit of Basel’s Taulant Xhaka.
The 24-year-old Albanian grew up at the Swiss side, spending the majority of his youth career there.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the player could be prized away from Basel in January for a fee of around €4 million.
The 24-year-old is a regular for his side, as he has featured in 15 out of 18 Raiffeisen Super League games this season.
Xhaka can be deployed as a defensive midfielder, centre-back or a right-back.
It remains to be seen if the Swiss champions will be willing to let go of one of their key players, but the money Fiorentina are reportedly willing to offer could be the key to engineer a possible move.
Fiorentina were after the player in the summer but the move didn’t happen as the Viola decided to sign Davide Astori from Cagliari instead.
