Genoa were defeated 1-0 by Bologna at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in their Saturday afternoon Serie A fixture.

Diego Perotti and Amadou Diawara were dismissed late in the tie before Luca Rossettini fired in a late winner.

The home side had the first promising attack of the match when a cross into the box from Diego Laxalt found Serge Gakpe, but the Togolese striker couldn’t hit the target. Goran Pandev had an opportunity to test Mirante, but the goalkeeper threw himself across the face of goal to stop the Macedonian curling it past him.

Central defender Sebastian De Maio came the closest from a corner, but Mirante dived to parry it off the line. In the second half the Rossoblu had their first chance through Mattia Destro, who had his shot blocked by Di Maio in the box. Diego Perotti then came on and started to cause all sorts of problems. A shot bound for the far corner was beaten away by Mirante, before Nicolas Burdisso had a powerful header saved by the Bologna shot-stopper from the subsequent corner.

Mattia Perin was finally called on to make a save, stopping Marios Oikonomou from getting enough purchase on his header. With the game beginning losing steam, the frustration soon spilled over, Perotti elbowed Amadou Diawara resulting in a straight red card for the substitute.

Burdisso then underhit his pass back to Perin, but the goalkeeper scrambled off his line to deny Destro.

They left it late but Bologna did finally snatch a win, defender Luca Rossettini rising highest to head it past Perin. Amadou Diawara was then shown a second yellow card just before the final whistle.

Genoa now languish in 16th and Bologna momentarily move up to 12th, with the Grifone facing a tough test in Roma next, while Bologna welcome Empoli.
