Ljajic Inter GenoaInter beat Genoa 1-0 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening in Serie A, taking them to first place in Serie A.

Adem Ljajic netted from a free-kick in what proved to be the deciding goal of the match with his teammate Danilo D’Ambrosio sent off in the final five minutes.

The home side came into the game with every intention of climbing back to the top of Serie A, but despite their early dominance Mattia Perin was not challenged by a single shot in the opening 20 minutes.

It looked as though Rodrigo Palacio was about to hand the Nerazzurri the lead soon after but a fantastic last-ditch tackle thwarted the Argentinian forward.

The main action of the first-half came in regards to the controversial decision to leave Inter midfielder Felipe Melo on the pitch. Having clashed heads in the opening exchanges with Gary Medel, a couple of occasions the Brazilian was forced to stop playing due to suffering from what appeared to be concussion, yet he remained on the field of play.

Perin made a superb stop to deny Ljajic moments before the half-time whistle went to keep the game goalless at the beak.

After Melo finally made way for Marcelo Brozovic prior to the start of the second-half, Genoa finally forced Samir Handanovic into action when he saved low from Diogo Figueiras.

Ljajic managed to beat Perin on the hour mark when his free-kick somehow managed to evade everyone in the box for the opening goal.

D’Ambrosio picked up his second yellow card and received his marching orders with just five minutes remaining for a niggling foul on the half-way line.

The result meant Inter returned to winning ways having previously lost 2-1 to Napoli and are still yet to lose to Genoa at home since the Grifone’s return to Serie A back in 2007.
