Lazio’s Senad Lulic should not have his entire finger amputated after severely damaging the digit during a freak gym accident.

It had been speculated that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international could lose the whole finger but that was avoided after a successful operation.

“The doctors told me that everything is going well and that the operation was successful,” said Lulic according to Faktor.

“The outcome of surgery was positive and I believe that amputation has been avoided.”

The 29-year-old also explained how he hurt himself after his club remained silent on the matter.

“I was doing a leg exercise and I slipped and the weights fell on top of my hand,” Lulic explained.

“It all happened in just a few seconds and I was immediately taken to hospital but it could have been a lot worse.”

The former Young Boys player was also unwilling to set a return date or address the controversy surrounding a group of Roma fans who created a banner mocking the injury.

“I’m not thinking about that at the moment,” Lulic went on.

“The most important thing is that they were able to save my finger.

“It doesn’t matter if I’m back in 30 days or a month and a half, health comes first.”
