Alessandro Diamanti is set to end his English Premier League purgatory and return to Italy.

The 32-year-old has featured on only three separate occasions for newly promoted Watford, with several Italian clubs interested in his signature when the January transfer window commences.

Livorno, with whom he spent two successful years with, are reportedly interested in his services.

Diamanti enjoys a strong rapport with president Aldo Spinelli and the club apparently believe that the midfielder could help reverse the side’s fortunes in Serie B.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also report that Sampdoria have shown interest in the ageing midfielder, though Diamanti would prefer a move to the Amaranto given how highly he is regarded among the supporters.

The playmaker is set to discuss his future with the Watford hierarchy later this week in the hope that a deal could be concluded before the end of the January transfer window.
