Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco says his side played well in their 1-0 victory over Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.

A 95th minute penalty from Domenico Berardi gave the away side all three points at the San Siro and leaves the Neroverdi in sixth position in the standings after round 18.

“It was a good match from our perspective, we grew into the game after a shaky start,” Di Francesco told Sky Sport Italia following the game.

“We had to face a side full of high quality internationals so we did well to win the match.”

Inter coach Roberto Mancini claimed after the game that Berardi should have been sent off before the penalty incident after a foul on Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio in the second half.

“It was a clear penalty, I don’t want to get involved in other episodes,” Di Francesco added.

“Inter are a great side and they will compete with Juventus and Napoli for the Scudetto.”

The former Roma midfielder was asked can his side qualify for Europe next season after such a strong showing in the first half of the season.

“We always want to achieve more, but I need to keep the guys focused,” stated Di Francesco.

“We stick together as a team even when we suffered some bad results and this can make a big difference.”

Sassuolo now travel to face Napoli next Saturday as the Neroverdi look to continue their fine season.
