CYXk18-WsAACWe-Napoli claimed Serie A top spot after the first round of games this season following a huge 5-1 victory away to Frosinone at the Stadio Matusa on Sunday afternoon.

Raul Albiol put the visitors ahead before Gonzalo Higuain grabbed two and Manolo Gabbiadini and Marek Hamsik got a goal each. Paolo Sammarco got a consolation goal for the hosts in the final 15 minutes but Frosinone were overall outplayed by the now-league leaders.

It was a strong start for the hosts but the Napoli threat eventually got the better of them, when Albiol met a corner with a skilful tap from the outside of the boot to guide it into the net and give his side the lead.

They were then presented with the chance to double their lead when Higuain was dragged down in the penalty area, and he soon converted the kick from 12 yards.

Luca Paganini had the chance to grab one back for Frosinone but his attempt at lifting the ball over Pepe Reina dragged wide.

An inevitable third came for the Partenopei, though with ten minutes gone in the first half when a brilliant Marek Hamsik shot found its way to the bottom corner after he was given plenty of space to move.

Just seconds later, Higuain got his teams’s fourth when he produced some fantastic footwork to weave past the defence and the goalkeeper before placing the ball into an empty net.

After coming on as a substitute for Higuain, Gabbiadini proved his quality in curling a sweet shot into the top corner to make it five.

Reina failed to keep a clean sheet, however, thanks to a great piece of teamwork from Frosinone which finished with a goal for Paolo Sammarco.

Napoli’s unbeaten run now stretches to six games as they sit top of the table by two points, while relegation worries are worsened for the Canarini who sit 18th.
