Roberto Stellone made a bittersweet return to the Stadio Olimpico where he spent four seasons as a Torino player, but couldn’t prevent his Frosinone side from a 4-2 defeat to the Granata on Saturday.

Despite Paolo Sammarco finding an equalizer to Ciro Immobile’s opener, the Canarini were punished for defensive errors on the day and had no answers for Andrea Belotti’s brace and Marco Benassi’s final strike.

“I don’t think we were poor,” he said.

“We conceded a goal from a penalty that shouldn’t have been awarded. Then we did well to equalise, but those two goals conceded before half-time really cut our legs out.”

Stellone applauded the strong fight shown by his team in the second half but conceded that the Canarini were unable to improve their slump of form.

“I haven’t looked at footage of the goals against us yet, but we are suffering too much,” he admitted.

“We need to work harder to improve because obviously we aren’t doing enough. The result is not a fair reflection because the team tried hard and carried possession.

“Unfortunately this is just a bad time for us.”
