Hellas Verona are still without a victory this campaign, drawing 1-1 with Genoa at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Genoa took the lead through a Ferdinando Coppola own goal before Giampaolo Pazzini brought the match level five minutes from half time.

The first chance for either side fell to the visitors in the opening five minutes when an impressive bicycle kick from Leonardo Pavoletti missed just over top of the bar.

The away side gained the advantage in the 19th minute when Diego Perotti’s dipping free kick crashed off the inside of the upright, taking a slight touch off the back of goalkeeper Coppola and over the line at the opposite post.

Verona nearly equalised moments later but Artur Ionita’s free header disappointed from five yards.

Perotti and Suso saw efforts just miss for Genoa before Verona’s Pawel Wszolek had his header finish straight at keeper Mattia Perin.

Verona equalised in the 40th minute. Ionita did well to make some space for himself inside the box before playing square to Pazzini in front of the open goal where the former Italy international had the easiest of tap-ins.

On the stroke of halftime Emil Hallfredsson hit a firm strike directly at Perin.

After the interval Pazzini found some space inside of the box to turn and fire straight at the goalkeeper.

At the hour mark a Verona free kick bounced around the box, eventually finding its way to Juanito Gomez whose effort from a narrow angle was blocked by Perin.

Minutes later Wszolek found himself with a gaping goal to aim at after rounding the keeper but could not effectively direct his off-balance effort from a tight angle.

In the 79th minute a Diego Laxalt cross from the left found Pavoletti who could only direct his header into the arms of Coppola.

In the 88th minute Rincon’s effort was deflected away from a promising position.

Deep into stoppages, Jankovic had one last chance to secure the elusive victory but his left-footed effort finished just high.

The draw is of little help for Verona who prop up the table with 10 points, 13 points away from the safety of 17th place, currently jointly held by Genoa and Sampdoria.
