Lazio have turned their attention to Aston Villa exile Philippe Senderos as an unlikely addition to their defence.

The 30-year-old centre-back was left out of the Villa team at the beginning of the season and he has waited for a January escape from the midlands club.

According to Il Tempothe former AC Milan defender still has admirers in Italy in the form of the Biancocelesti and could be set for a move to the Italian capital.

Senderos hasn’t played a competitive match since November 2014 after failing to impress coach Tim Sherwood or the recently appointed Remi Garde and is keen to secure regular playing time away from Villa Park.

Villa will listen to any proposition Lazio may have, with the Swiss international valued at just under €2 million.

The Biancocelesti are still looking at defensive alternatives in England, France, Ukraine and on the peninsula.

Liverpool centre-back Kolo Toure is thought to be an alternative option, as is Cristian Zapata of AC Milan.
