Having left Turin for the Big Apple in the summer, the 36-year-old has made a decent impact in the MLS despite being in the twilight of his career, a time in which the playmaker can reflect on his achievements.

“Juventus are still the team to beat,” said Pirlo to Corriere della Sera.

“I’d been thinking about my future after losing the Champions League final as I knew it would be difficult to repeat this season and after certain years it can only get worse.

“I went to [Juve President] Andrea Agnelli and we had a verbal agreement for me to leave.”

The former Bianconeri man has enjoyed an illustrious career, starring for both Inter and AC Milan, for whom the latter he picked up two Scudettos and two Champions League winners’ medals, and Pirlo believes the Rossoneri need time to get back to the top.

“Milan are in trouble,” he continued “But it is not that you can change the coach every year and make a revolution, you need a long-term program for change.”
