Juventus beat Sampdoria 2-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday night to move into second place in the table.

The Bianconeri opened the scoring in the 16th minute through a volley from Paul Pogba, before they doubled their lead in the 46th minute through Sami Khedira; however, Antonio Cassano managed to give the game life as he scored in the 64th minute.

The game started in a tentative fashion but Juventus still managed to take the lead in the 16th minute.

A free-kick was whipped into Pogba, who chested the ball up into the air setting it on a plate for himself to fire a scuffed volley beyond Emiliano Viviano.

Yet, despite dominating the game, The Old Lady were unable to really test Viviano for much of the half. However, they were given a nice little advantage when Il Doria key-man Roberto Soriano, was replaced by David Ivan, after complaining of dizziness.

Vincenzo Montella’s side looked toothless upfront as Juventus went into half-time leading 1-0.

With alarming urgency the Bianconeri doubled their lead in the second-half. Khedira burst forward and was found by an incisive pass by Paulo Dybala.

The German international took the ball in his stride before he stabbed it beyond the onrushing Viviano.

Sampdoria were showing some signs of life and Eder almost pulled a goal back for La Samp fans. Cassano produced a wonderful cross which found an unmarked Eder, but the Italian international put his header just beyond the post.

Alvaro Morata was the next player to miss a guilt-edged chance after he beat Sampdoria’s offside trap, yet like Eder, he put his header wide.

Morata was made to regret that miss as Cassano pulled a goal back for Montella’s side. Carlos Carbonero slid a pass to the Italian who, on the stretch, instinctively shot past Gianluigi Buffon in the penalty box.

Sampdoria piled on the pressure but in stoppage time Nicklas Moisander was sent-off for a rash challenge on Simone Zaza.

La Samp couldn’t find the equaliser as Juventus saw the 2-1 win out. The result leaves the Bianconeri in second place, whilst Il Doria find themselves in the 13th place.
