Sampdoria, despite interest from Liverpool.

The Reds had been reportedly interested in bringing the Italian to Anfield in an attempt to shore-up their injury ridden squad, but it now appears as though the former Inter captain will remain in Italy and seal a move to the Blucerchiati.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 27-year-old has expressed a desire to remain in Italy and a move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris is seen as his preferred destination.

It is thought that Ranocchia’s switch could open the door for Roberto Soriano or Eder to move in the opposite direction, with the two club’s set to meet in the next week to discuss terms.

Ranocchia has fallen out of favour at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since the arrival of coach Roberto Mancini and has been replaced as club captain by last season’s Capocannoniere, Mauro Icardi.

Since moving to the Milan club from Samp’s city rivals Genoa in 2011, Ranocchia has played 166 Serie A matches for Inter.
