sassuolo Sassuolo and Torino drew 1-1 on Wednesday night at the Mapei Stadium, in the rescheduled match from December 12.

The visitors went ahead in the 22nd minute thanks to an Andrea Belotti tap-in after a wonderful Marco Benassi assist. Sassuolo pushed immediately for the equaliser and made it 1-1 thanks to Francesco Acerbi. Not much happened in the second 45 minutes, as both teams seemed happy with a point.

Sassuolo started the better in terms of possession, but struggled to transform it into clearcut chances.

Torino, on the other hand, were solid at the back and after 22 minutes found the right opportunity to take the lead, with Belotti scoring from close range after a great pass by Benassi.

The Neroverdi reacted immediately, with Acerbi’s header being saved on the line heroically by Kamil Glik.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s men pushed the Granata back, but were then vulnerable to counterattacks, with Ciro Immobile being stopped by Acerbi.

It was Acerbi himself who made the game level after making the most of the confusion in the Torino box and firing home the 1-1 on 40 minutes.

There were no changes at half time, with the second half starting quite slowly.

The first chance came on 60 minutes with Gregoire Defrel testing Salvador Ichazo and a minute later Belotti’s shot was saved by Andrea Consigli.

Sassuolo went close to going 2-1 up with Nicola Sansone running at goal, but he was denied the chance to shoot by Ichazo.

Sansone went past two Torino defenders then set up Alfred Duncan on 75 minutes, but his shot from a good position went wide.

It was Sansone again, on 82 minutes, who had the best chance of the second half, as he headed wide a lovely cross by Sime Vrsaljko.

The game ended without many highlights, apart from the Granata coach Gianpiero Ventura being sent off for protests against the referee.

With a point each, Sassuolo joined AC Milan on 32 points, while Torino remain in 11th place with 26 points.
