luciano-spalletti_1238226cRoma have officially announced the signing of Luciano Spalletti as coach following the sacking of Rudi Garcia.

The 56-year-old inherits a Roma side currently in a state of turmoil, having expected to challenge for the Scudetto but after a positive start to the campaign the Giallorossi have managed only two victories since Halloween, falling seven points off the pace.

This poor run of form prompted the dismissal of Garcia yesterday morning and Gazzetta dello Sport report that his replacement has been signed a contract for 18 months after meeting President James Pallotta in Miami over the past few days.

The hiring marks Spalletti’s second stint with the Lupi, having coached the club between 2005 to 2009, winning two Coppa Italia titles and being named Coach of the Year in 2006.

Spalletti’s first match in charge will come against Hellas Verona on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Olimpico, an opportune moment as Verona are bottom of the table without a victory to their name this season.

The two-time Udinese coach was last employed by Zenit Saint Petersburg where he was relieved of his duties in March of 2014 after spending five seasons with the Russian outfit.
