Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday afternoon.

The 56-year-old has returned for a second spell in charge of the capital club following the sacking of Rudi Garcia and has wished his predecessor well in the future.

“I came back to coach Roma because of how well I know this beautiful city and club,” Spalletti told reporters ahead at his pre-match press conference.

“It is going to take a bit of time as I come to terms with the changes and try to make improvements. I even stayed overnight at the training ground to get used to it all.

“There are many new things in place at Trigoria these days, it is a different environment to the one I left but training has gone very well since I left and there was no negativity. Everyone wishes Rudi well.”

However, Spalletti has targeted a victory in his first game back at the helm and knows he must deliver results immediately.

“I will say that we are Roma and we must win games right away,” he added.

“I know that, it is one of the advantages I have. I know this environment so well and know what it takes to be the Roma coach.”

“I knew somebody would ask me about the Scudetto or Champions League qualification. All I can say is that my immediate focus is on the first game and the first week of work, then we will see how quickly the team can change.

“If we can do that and win games one at a time, then it is difficult for teams to move ahead of you.”
