Criscito - ItalyDomenico Criscito may be enjoying life on the pitch at Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg, but the Italian defender has confessed that he is missing his homeland after almost five years away.

The 29-year-old made an €11 million move east from Genoa in 2011 and has tasted success with the Bomzhi, claiming two Russian Premier League titles and progressing into the latter stages of the Champions League, but admits life is not perfect away from the Mediterranean.

“I am happy in Russia, playing in a great team and in the Champions League, however not everything in Russia is going so well and I have nostalgia for Italy,” said Criscito to Radio Deejay.

The Azzurri international has not been linked with a move back to Serie A, although his love for former club Genoa is apparent as he keeps a close eye on the goings on back home.

“I went to see the Derby [della Lanterna] and I’m sorry for the tough period my old teammates are going through,” he said.

“It’s been an unlucky season, with [Leandro] Pavoletti out for three games with a suspension and [Diego] Perotti injured.

“The Scudetto race is more balanced now, but I think Juventus remain the favourite.”
