Carpi AtalantaAtalanta boss Edy Reja explained why his side didn’t manage to seal a win after they secured a 1-1 draw at Carpi on Sunday afternoon.

Neither side really got going until the second half as Atalanta failed to hold the lead and came away with just a point.

“Once we conceded the penalty, we could not get out of our own box and fear stopped us from pushing forward.” Reja told Radio Rai.

Atalanta now lie in 13th, just seven points off the drop.

“We don’t deliberately fail to put away chances,” Reja asserted. “We create them but cannot finish, so I want our belief in front of goal to return.

“The goalkeepers are always the best players against us. I hope that changes before the end of the season!

“[Marco] Sportiello is young but has shown great qualities for us over the last couple of years.”

The coach was asked about his sides’ chances against Juventus in the next round of Serie A.

“Sometimes there are surprises and you can get points where you don’t expect them.”
