Fabio CapelloAC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has revealed that he tried to coax Fabio Capello out of retirement before appointing Sinisa Mihajlovic last summer.

Capello spent five years as head coach of the Rossoneri between 1991 and 1996, collecting a glut of silverware that included four Scudetti and a Champions League.

“I must say that before the last appointment, I proposed a return to AC Milan to him,” Berlusconi told the microphones of TG1.

“But he has other enviable goals such as that of enjoying life.”

The AC Milan president celebrated his 30th year at the helm but admitted that his interest in Italian football has waned in recent years.

“I would be lying if I said that Italian football amuses me as it once did,” Berlusconi added.

“But I think I have made an important contribution to changing the game in our country.”
