Carpi snatched a 1-1 draw against Atalanta at Stadio Alberto Braglia on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

Jasmin Kurtic broke the deadlock after latching on to a Marco D’Alessandro low cross to slot home from close range in the 53rd minute.

Simone Verdi converted his penalty to level the tie for Carpi with 15 minutes to go after a slight nudge in the box lead to the spot-kick being awarded.

Atalanta started off the game more than happy to concede set pieces and forced Carpi into mistakes in possession.

It was the home side who should have scored first when Kevin Lasagna found himself through on goal but his touch was clumsy and gave the ‘keeper the chance to come out and smother the opportunity.

Mauricio Pinilla and Gabriel Paletta both had good chances before half-time but either the power or accuracy were not present for both players.

Marco Sportiello made a brilliant save for the visitors after tipping over a fierce Raffaele Bianco edge-of-the-box strike.

It was Atalanta who took the lead early in the second half as Jasmin Kurtic slotted the ball home at the far post after excellent work by D’Alessandro on the left.

Antonio Di Gaudio wasted an opportunity just minutes later to make the score level. He found himself a yard in the box before directing his effort straight at the ‘keeper.

The chance to snatch the draw did come in 75th minute in controversial fashion. Following a corner, Alessandro Diamanti shrugged off Fabrizio Poli in the box, with the attacker going down rather easily with the referee pointing straight to the spot.

Simone Verdi stepped up to coolly pass the ball into the bottom corner, sending the stopper the wrong way to make the score 1-1.

This spurred on the home side, but no clear cut chances were created, as both sides settled for the draw.

The draw leaves Carpi lying in 19th and Atalanta in 13th with 30 points.
