Fiorentina beat Carpi 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Wednesday night in Serie A, thanks to a wonder goal by Mauro Zarate.

The Viola went up immediately, scoring after just 75 seconds with Borja Valero collecting a Josip Ilicic pass and gently firing home. Carpi played on a par and 15 minutes to the end found the 1-1 with Kevin Lasagna. It was Fiorentina who laughed at the end, though, with new signing Zarate scoring a beautiful goal to make it 2-1.

Fiorentina started off the better side, going ahead thanks to a lovely assist by Ilicic and a beautiful finish by Borja Valero.

Carpi reacted, though, and Jerry Mbakogu had the chance to go one-on-one against Ciprian Tatarusanu on six miniutes, but missed the control.

On eight minutes Cristian Tello showed what he is capable of doing with a wonder dribble and a rapid pass to Nikola Kalinic, who fired over the bar.

The hosts controlled for some time, but the visitors took over in the last 15 minutes of the first half, going close to the draw.

On 32 minutes Mbakogu beautifully served Lorenzo Lollo, who missed the easiest of headers with the ball going wide.

The Viola then attacked in the last minutes of the first half, going near the 2-0 first with a Matias Fernandez shot, then on the following corner with Gonzalo Rodriguez’s header saved by Vid Belec.

The rain and the wind that were strong in the first half continued in the second 45 minutes, with little happening in the first 15.

Coach Paulo Sousa was then sent off for arguing with the referee and collecting his second red card in two games.

Fabrizio Castori’s men took advantage of the situation and on 73 minutes found the equaliser with Lasagna’s second Serie A goal following a stupid mistake of the Viola defence, with Tomovic letting go of the ball.

Fiorentina seemed unable to score the winner, until Zarate – who came on for Ilicic – dribbled past two men and painted a wonderful trajectory with his right foot to give the Viola all three points on 93 minutes.
