Former Lazio coach Edy Reja says it’s disheartening to see the Stadio Olimpico empty and has urged fans to return to back their side.

Reja staved off relegation for the Aquile when he was appointed as head coach in 2010, cementing the side’s position in mid-table before departing in 2012.

“It’s depressing to see the Olimpico empty,” the now Atalanta coach said after Lazio’s goalless draw with Genoa on Saturday evening.

“There have been games in which the stadium was full, I saw these colours white and blue and it was a thrill.

“I’d like them for them to come back.”

Reja hailed Stefano Pioli’s appointment as a positive reinforcement but says the Biancocelesti must address their weaknesses.

“Lazio have had several problems, especially in the middle of the defence,” he added.

“When you’re engaged in Europe there are always many problems, I also had many.”
