Fredy Guarin InterFormer Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin has revealed that he decided to join Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua as he needed a new footballing experience.

The Colombian international explained that he was attracted to China due to its competitive nature and also claimed close friend Giovanni Moreno, who has been at Shanghai since 2012, convinced him to make the switch.

“I wanted a change after my experiences in Serie A,” said Guarin to Marca. “I am trying out a new adventure in my own career and in my life.

“I chose this club because my friend Moreno is there.  Also the city is welcoming and the league is competitive.

“I have not been to China yet, but it has attracted so many important players from Europe.”

The 29-year-old initially joined the Nerazzurri on loan from Porto in January 2012 but made the deal permanent three months later and subsequently made 114 Serie A appearances, scoring 15 goals in the process.
