Giuseppe IachiniPalermo coach Giuseppe Iachini revealed that he appreciated president Maurizio Zamparini’s apologies as he was lured back to the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

The Italian was sacked in early November and returned in February after the Rosanero got through four different coaches in the interim period.

“I appreciated Zamparini’s apologies, they made me understand a lot of things but winning on the pitch is the most important thing,” said Iachini to reporters.

“I came back because I’ve known the president for a long time and he asked me for help in this time of difficulty.

“This group of players have given me a lot over the years and I haven’t seen anything which says that they are going to stop now.”

The Palermo coach also discussed his opposite number ahead of the Sicilian side’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.

“I know [Luciano] Spalletti well, I have a great respect for him as a person and as a coach because he gives identity to his teams,” Iachini added.

“We know that we can improve but we will have to play very well although we are taking things a game at a time.”
