Juventus defeated rivals Inter 2-0 at the Juventus Stadium in their Sunday evening Serie A derby clash.

A defensive mistake allowed Leonardo Bonucci the opportunity to put the hosts ahead, one which he took with both hands, and Alvaro Morata then converted his spot kick to confirm all three points for the Bianconeri.

The Old Lady initially came out all guns blazing, an early long-range strike from Hernanes struck the woodwork after Samir Handanovic got a slight touch on the ball. Minutes later the Bianconeri had another chance, but Paulo Dybala couldn’t convert the pass from Mario Mandzukic.

Mauro Icardi came very close to scoring for the Nerazzurri, but he couldn’t make clean contact with the ball from Rodrigo Palacio. Handanovic came to the rescue again for the visitors, charging off his line to beat Mandzukic to the ball and parry it out into play.

In the second half it took just seconds for the opening goal to arrive, a terrible clearance from Danilo D’Ambrosio fell kindly into the path of Leonardo Bonucci who blasted his volley past Handanovic. Dybala almost doubled the Bianconeri lead, but his curling strike went just wide of the post after Alex Sandro found him in the box.

The second goal of the game eventually arrived, courtesy of a clattering challenge from Miranda on Alvaro Morata in the box. Referee Gianluca Rocchi awarded the penalty and Morata took the spot kick, sending Handanovic the wrong way.

Inter had late chances to grab a consolation goal, Miranda had a shot saved comfortably at the near post by Gianluigi Buffon, before substitute Eder had his goal-bound strike eventually cleared.

Juventus now go four points clear at the top of the Serie A table, while Inter lose ground on Fiorentina and Roma, with AC Milan now also catching up with their rivals.
