Lazio lost 0-2 to Sassuolo on Monday night at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A, once again disappointing in the league.

The game started slowly, with neither side putting in a lot of effort, but that changed on 41 minutes when Domenico Berardi slotted home thanks to a penalty conceded by Mauricio. The second half saw Lazio try and draw, but Sassuolo found the second on 67 minutes thanks to Gregoire Defrel, putting the game to sleep.

A disappointing Lazio – after the great win over Galatasaray in the Europa League – took on a seemingly tired Sassuolo and not much happened in the first half an hour.

A lot of fouls and two yellow cards were shown, with the best chance being a Federico Peluso shot wide.

On 40 minutes, though, Mauricio naively committed a foul in the penalty area and Berardi found another goal by calmly scoring from 12 yards only moments before the break.

The second half started with the Biancocelesti trying harder to find the equaliser, with Miroslav Klose’s shot on 50 minutes being blocked by the defence.

But after the first 15 minutes it was the visitors who had the best chances, with Berardi again going close to scoring on 62 minutes, his shot being saved brilliantly by Etrit Berisha coming out of goal.

Balde Diao Keita had the chance to put Stefano Pioli’s men level, but Andrea Consigli coming out of his box stopped him with his foot on 65 minutes.

Two minutes later, Eusebio Di Francesco’s men found the net again with Defrel who had the time and space to fire a missile behind Berisha and make it 2-0.

Consigli was then superb on a Klose header just moments after, keeping the double lead for the Neroverdi.

Pioli tried to change something up front with Filip Djordjevic replacing Klose and Stefano Mauri replacing Felipe Anderson.

Djordjevic had a great opportunity to lighten up the last five minutes, 1-1 against the Neroverdi keeper, with Consigli again coming out perfectly to deny him the chance.

The game ended with the protest of the Lazio fans and Sassuolo climbing to 41 points.
