roberto manciniInter coach Roberto Mancini has hailed the significance of returning to winning ways as his side defeated Sampdoria 3-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening.

Danilo D’Ambrosio opened the scoring for the hosts before Miranda doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Mauro Icardi put the result beyond doubt in the 73rd minute before Fabio Quagliarella grabbed a consolation in stoppage time.

“It was important to return to winning ways and to draw closer to third place,” Mancini told Premium Sport after the victory.

“It was not easy, Samp are a good team and we played like we had prepared.

“I know that as a group we have talented guys and right now they are suffering and will try to make the most out of it and they have the qualities to do it.”

The Nerazzurri coach altered the formation for the visit of Samp but Mancini believes the tactical switch had nothing to do with the final outcome.

“We’ve always played well with it or the 4-3-3, but in the end, everything depends on the attitude and the will to win,” he added.

“It is not the form that makes the winning team but the players.”
