Chievo coach Rolando Maran has praised his team’s desire in their 3-1 loss to Hellas Verona in the Derby della Scala on Saturday evening.

The Mussi Volanti went 2-0 behind in the match, but with 20 minutes to go Sergio Pellissier looked to have set up an exciting finish to the match. However, their chances of equalising were spurned, when Nicolas Spolli was sent-off for a second yellow card.

“Today we didn’t turn up in the first-half, but in the second we reacted well and fought well,” said Maran to Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“We are having a bad run of form because of the schedule and our injuries. We were unlucky to go 2-0 down and we believed until the end.

“We are angry for not being able to equalise.”
