maurizio sarriNapoli coach Maurizio Sarri has commended his side’s effort as they crashed out the Europa League at the hands of Villarreal at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Partenopei drew 1-1 on the evening but were beaten 2-1 on aggregate after Denis Suarez’s late winner in the first-leg last week.

“We have to stay calm and continue to play like we have,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“In the last two games we have attempted 41 shots on goal with 15-16 on target, so we’re doing something wrong too.

“We work to improve, definitely, this period is just unlucky.”

Gonzalo Higuain has embarked on a barren spell in front of goal but the Napoli coach is pleased by his talisman’s overall contribution.

“You can not expect to always make the difference,” he added.

“I’m happy for how he’s played and he must continue to work hard and do well.”
