Aurelio De LaurentiisNapoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he can exercise the option to extend coach Maurizio Sarri’s contract by up to five years.

Sarri has guided the Partenopei to within touching distance of league leaders Juventus but his contract expires at the end of the season.

“Sarri has a contract with four different options,” said De Laurentiis in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“He unilaterally agreed with me that within a month of each calendar year I can exercise the option and confirm the agreement on prices and revenues that are already predetermined.

“I put these clauses in to be confirmed each year to protect the club. It’s the same thing I did with [Rafa] Benitez, one year with a renewal option.”

The Napoli president also gave his two cents on the current state of Italian football.

“We need everyone to make up for lost time and bring Italian football ahead compared to where it is today,” he added.

“Not that you have to waste time in dividing the money, but finding more funds for the future.”
