AC Milan beat Genoa 2-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.
The Rossoneri went 1-0 up thanks to Carlos Bacca, with Genoa not being able to shoot on target at all during the first half. Keisuke Honda made it 2-0 on 63 minutes, and Alessio Cerci scored in his old stadium for the final scoreline of 2-1.

AC Milan
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6 – Quiet
Quiet afternoon for Donnarumma, who was hardly ever called to action until Cerci’s useless goal.
Mattia De Sciglio – 6 – Adventurous
Against this Genoa he had all the time to go forward and be present in Milan’s attack as much as in defence.
Alex – 6 – Solid
Clean game for the Brazilian, who conceded hardly anything at the back
Alessio Romagnoli – 6.5 – Mature
Solid performance from the youngster defensively, he was also able to give Genoa problems up front.
Luca Antonelli – 6 – Disciplined
From a lovely cross in the first half came a good chance for Bacca to make it 2-0. At the back he had
Suso first and Cerci second, but he controlled them smoothly.
Keisuke Honda – 7 – Enlightening
For the first 45 minutes he is by far the best for Milan, serving the assist for the first goal and producing something interesting every time he had the ball in his feet. In the second half he fired home the 2-0.
Riccardo Montolivo – 6.5 – Pragmatic
Dictated the game from deep for the Rossoneri, controlling his area nicely and having also the time to hit a post with a lovely volley in the second half.
Andrea Bertolacci – 5.5 – Average
Easy task for him to help out Montolivo in the middle, but did nothing special apart from this.
Giacomo Bonaventura – 6 – Dangerous
Combined well with the strikers and Honda, creating chances and taking some shots at the Genoa goal.
Carlos Bacca – 6.5 – Clinical
The Bacca we all know: AC Milan’s first defender and a clinical finisher when he gets the chance.
Mbaye Niang – 5.5 – Hard-working
The usual satellite around Bacca, pressing the defence and using his pace to try be dangerous on the counter attacks. Just couldn’t find the goal.
Substitutes:
Jeremy Menez – 6 – Returning
Came on for his first game of the season and this is already some good news for Milan.
Andrea Poli – N/A
Mario Balotelli – N/A
Genoa
Mattia Perin – 5.5 – Stuttering
Not much he could do on Bacca’s shot, he then denies Milan on some occasions, keeping Genoa in the game until Honda’s 2-0 where he surely wasn’t perfect.
Sebastian De Maio – 5 – Unsure
Should have done better to cover on Milan’s 1-0 like the rest of the Rossoblu defence. He then improved and was the best of Genoa’s back three.
Armando Izzo – 5.5 – Weak
Bacca had too much time to slot home the 1-0, he tried to control Milan’s attack unsuccessfully.
Nicolas Burdisso – 5 – Disappointing
The captain guided the back line well at points, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the Rossoneri scoring and being dangerous other times.
Suso – 5 – Useless
45 minutes of absolutely nothing against his former team. Should have done much better.
Riccardo Fiamozzi – 6 – Prepared
The youngster started at the San Siro and responded decently, with a promising display in a difficult afternoon.
Luca Rigoni – 6 – Attacking
He tried to give Donnarumma something to think about, especially in the first half, with a couple of shots that the Milan goalkeeper easily controlled. From a good finish came Cerci’s goal
Blerim Dzemaili – 5 – Tired
He was unable to provide the pace and runs he should give to the Genoa midfield and was caught up in the passing of Montolivo.
Gabriel Silva – 6 – Quick
Some important runs down the flank, giving Milan some very mild problems. One of the best for a very disappointing Genoa.
Tim Matavz – 5.5 – Inconsistent
At times it seemed like he could spark some light for the Genoa attack and create chances but was unable to deliver.
Diego Laxalt – 5.5 – Ineffective
Struggled to ever be a danger for the Rossoneri back four and was never able to be really in the game.
Substitutes:
Alessio Cerci – 5.5 – Slow
An absolute ghost until he finds the winning header to make it 2-1, but it was too late.
Olivier Ntcham – N/A
Darko Lazovic – N/A
