Vincent KompanyRoma are on the prowl for a back line general and have their sights set on Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany.

Giallorossi president James Pallotta admitted earlier in the week that the club will be in the market for defensive help and the Citizens’ captain certainly fits the mould.

According to Corriere dello Sport, initial contact between the two clubs has already been made but much will depend on the vision of incoming coach Pep Guardiola moving forward.

However, Roma would likely need to be able to offer Kompany Champions League football in order to tempt the Belgian away.

As a teenager, the now 29-year-old was heavily linked with Inter before signing with Bundesliga side Hamburg in 2006.

Should negotiations fail to come to fruition, i Lupi are also considering a move for former player Mehdi Benatia who left the club for Bayern Munich in August 2014.

This move would also be contingent on an inbound coach, namely Carlo Ancelotti.

Empoli’s Lorenzo Tonelli and Sassuolo’s Francesco Acerbi are two domestic options as well.
