sampdoria frosinoneSampdoria beat Frosinone 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon in Serie A .

Fernando opened the scoring just before the break before Fabio Quagliarella made it more comfortable with 20 minutes left.

Sampdoria started brightly and Fernando rattled the crossbar with a long shot in the third minute.

Quagliarella almost opened the scoring in the fifth minute from a corner but his header was cleared off the line.

Samp’s strong start continued and Joaquin Correa forced a decent save from Nicola Leali in the 18th minute with a long shot.

Sampdoria’s pressure paid off in the 45th minute after a patient passage of play saw Fernando play a one-two with Lorenzo De Silvestri before striking the ball low into the bottom-right corner first time.

Frosinone showed a bit more in the second half and Federico Dionisi only narrowly failed to tap the ball in from a square ball across the face of goal on the hour.

Ricky Alvarez had a great chance to make it 2-0 in the 67th minute with a header from close range but he somehow managed to fall over and hardly make any contact with the ball.

Quagliarella doubled Samp’s lead in the 69th minute as the visitors failed to clear a Mattia Cassani cross from the right and the forward was there to poke the rebound home.

The Canarini pressed late on but the Blucerchiati defence held strong as the away side became frustrated as they struggled to find a way back into the match.

The result sees Samp climb to 16th place with a five-point cushion over the relegation zone while Frosinone stay 18th and four points behind Palermo.
