Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly turned down the opportunity to take Fernando Torres to White Hart Lane before the transfer window slams shut.

The 2010 World Cup winner has returned to parent club AC Milan after boyhood side Atletico Madrid rejected the chance to make his loan move permanent. With his contract due to run out this summer, the Rossoneri are willing to listen to offers for the striker who has scored just once for the Milan club since signing in August 2014.

According to Footballinsider.com sources, the Argentine coach was offered Torres but has refused to make a move as he chases other targets.

But after being on the fringes in La Liga, the Spaniard would have welcomed a return to London with his options limited.

With Spurs desperately needing back-up for Harry Kane, it shows how the mighty have fallen as the Lilywhites will now concentrate their efforts on bringing in West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino.
