Pavoletti GenoaFormer Juventus midfielder Marco Tardelli has backed Genoa forward Leonardo Pavoletti’s bid for a spot in Italy’s European Championship squad.

The Grifone hitman has been in top goal-scoring form this season and is currently one of just four Italian players to reach double figures in Serie A.

Pavoletti is yet to earn a single Azzurri cap but, speaking to PianetaGenoa1893.net, Tardelli did not think it should stand in his way.

“Anything can happen. Pavoletti has done well at Genoa. He might have felt Serie A was too much for him after his bad experience with Sassuolo,” the 1982 World Cup winner said.

“He will have to fight against other players that have more international experience than him, but he can do it.”

This is the former Pavia striker’s first full season in Serie A having worked his way up from starting in Serie D in 2008.
