Axel Witsel ZenitInterest from AC Milan and Juventus may be high, but Zenit Saint Petersburg star Axel Witsel would reportedly prefer a transfer to Serie A rivals Roma.

Signing for the Russian side in 2012, the 27-year-old has decided to look for pastures new in the upcoming summer transfer window, encouraged by Zenit’s inability to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.

According to Telelombardia, the Belgian international is keen on working with Luciano Spalletti once more, the coach who brought Witsel to Russia and managed him for two seasons before departing in 2014.

In what is a boost to the Giallorossi, is also a blow to Milan and the Old Lady, the former having tracked Witsel for some time. Furthermore, Juve have already begun talks with the midfielder’s officials over a move, but now find themselves knocked back in their pursuit.
