Alejandro Gomez opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Alessandro Diamanti gave the home side a cushion just before the break.

The Orobici started brightly and the crowd got going early to support their team.

Gomez gave Atalanta with a tap-in in the 25th minute after Diamanti turned Daniele Gastaldello inside out before squaring the ball to his teammate who could make no mistake.

Domenico Maietta scored in the 36th minute after a real goalmouth scramble in the Atalanta box where Marco Sportiello made an excellent point blank save but the assistant referee correctly noticed that the Bologna defender was offside in an earlier passage of play.

Diamanti made it 2-0 in first half stoppage time after Mauricio Pinilla shrugged Maietta off the ball to the right of the area after a ball over the top before simply tapping it sideways to the Italian put the ball away comfortably.

The Dea worked their way into the Rossoblu box straight after the restart through Diamanti and Ibrahima Mbaye was forced to chest the ball behind.

Bologna’s Emanuele Giaccherini went down in the 49th minute from a Marten De Roon challenge but was booked for diving.

The Dea’s Sportiello made a good save in the 59th minute after Andrea Masiello’s attempted interception almost flew into his own top corner.

Sergio Floccari went in on goal after a fortunate rebound but Sportiello made another important save in the 63rd minute before gathering from a header at the subsequent corner.

Gomez won a penalty from a Gastaldello challenge in the 75th minute after a great run but Antonio Mirante made a great save down to his right from Pinilla’s spot kick.

Mbaye was then sent off seconds later after going in over the top of the ball on Gomez.

Gastaldello was handed a second yellow card in the 85th minute as Bologna went down to nine men.

The result sends Atalanta to 14th while Bologna remain ninth in the table.
