icardi-higuainSpanish side Atletico Madrid are hoping to land either one of Inter‘s Mauro Icardi and Napoli‘s Gonzalo Higuain this summer, as they look to expand their front line.

The two Argentines both boast a strong goal-scoring record this season, though Higuain currently holds the bragging rights between the pair as he sits atop of the scoring charts in Serie A, which has in turn seen him attract a great deal of interest.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atletico Madrid are one of the sides keen on bringing the Napoli forward to Spain, and will likely make a move for his services should they fail to entice former striker Diego Costa back to the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The Rojiblancos hold an impressive track record when it comes to strikers, and they will reportedly offer a huge sum to land the man who once played for their city rivals Real Madrid.

However, Napoli are considered to be unwilling to sanction the sale of their star forward and will aim to keep hold of him at all costs, which may drive Atletico towards their second option, Icardi.

Having initially struggled for goals at the start of the season, the 23-year-old has turned his fortunes around and netted 12 times thus far. Remaining coy on his future, it remains to be seen whether he would accept a move abroad or choose to continue captaining the Nerazzurri.
