abbiati ac milanChievo drew 0-0 with AC Milan on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Bentegodi in the 2,500th match of Serie A’s current format.

The hosts forced some good saves from substitute Christian Abbiati and had a goal disallowed at the death as the Rossoneri struggled to get going.

Chievo started well but a slightly frantic look Milan defence kept them at bay.

The game continued to have an end-to-edn rhythm before quieting down once the Rossoneri grew into the game although they were struck a blow when goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had to be replaced by Abbiati after the youngster looked dazed.

Abbiati was called into action in the 20th minute when he did very well to get down to an Antonio Floro Flores shot that was heading for the bottom-left corner.

Riccardo Meggiorini went through on goal in the 31st minute but his placed shot was too weak and central which allowed Abbiati to save with his feet.

Keisuke Honda went close with a free kick that flew just wide of the post in the 42nd minute.

Valter Birsa turned Alex inside out in the 52nd minute but his shot from outside the box was saved simply enough by Abbiati.

The Milan fans thought they had taken the lead when Carlos Bacca hit the side netting with a header at the far post in the 54th minute.

The Rossoneri were in the ascendancy around the hour mark but players such as Honda looked unwilling to shoot when the opportunities presented themselves.

Birsa found some space in the area in the 66th minute only for Fabrizio Cacciatore to blaze over from the cutback.

Milan hit the woodwork twice in the 74th minute after Albano Bizzarri pushed one shot from Ignazio Abate onto the bar before Andrea Bertolacci smashed the rebound onto the post.

Substitute Simone Pepe got behind the away side’s defence from a high ball in the 77th minute but a heavy touch sent him away from goal.

Bacca was in a dangerous position in the 79th minute but an alert Bizzarri was there to pounce at his feet when the Colombian had his back to goal.

Cacciatore found the net in the 89th minute but his great header from a free kick was ruled offside.

The result sees Milan stay sixth while Chievo are 10th.
