Marco-GiampaoloEmpoli coach Marco Giampaolo conceded that his team do not yet feel safe from the possibility of relegation and believes that they have take maximum points from their remaining games in order to ease fears.

The Azzurri drew 1-1 against Sampdoria on Saturday evening and Giampaolo admitted the match was especially difficult for his team following their recent poor run in Serie A.

“It is not easy to express ourselves after four defeats in a row, because there isn’t the right serenity,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We started well and we had the chances to win, but after we conceded the goal we suffered a psychological blow.

“Luckily the lads were positive and in the end they managed to make it 1-1.

“We still are not safe from relegation, and we have to keep winning games as there are still nine matches to go.

“The top of the mountain is still far.”

Top scorer Massimo Maccarone was not happy about his substitution during the second half, and Giampaolo commented on the episode: “I understand him,” he concluded.

“If he is angry it means he cares, that he won’t rest, but I have to make choices for the good of the team.

“He has had an amazing season so far and has all my respect.”
