Despite the severe scrutiny that Alberto Aquilani faced during his brief time with Liverpool, his former teammate, Jonjo Shelvey, has since revealed that the Italian was technically the best player he ever worked with.
Having spent just one full season with the Reds from 2009-2010, the former AC Milan man made just 18 Premier League appearances, primarily due to persistent injuries that hindered the impact he had on Merseyside.
“This may surprise some people because I have chosen Aquilani,” said Shelvey to Sky Sports when selecting his all-time preferred starting XI. “In my career I have never seen anyone who was better than him from a technical point of view. ”
Furthermore, the Newcastle United midfielder has also lauded Aquilani’s character, claiming that his personality off the pitch was just as good as his talent on it.
