Genoa CFC v Empoli FC - Serie AGenoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini hailed the importance of the Grifone’s 1-0 win over Empoli at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in their battle against the drop.

The victory eased relegation fears among the Genoa supporters as Luca Rigoni struck the decisive goal shortly after the interval.

“It is three key points, it is not easy to win against Empoli but we dominated for long periods, giving away only a couple of dangerous occasions,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“I’m especially happy for [Goran] Pandev, he had a good game.”

Gasperini also provided an update on the recovery of talisman Leonardo Pavoletti.

“I hope he will return soon, but the predictions are not reassuring,” Gasperini added.

“We will see in the coming weeks, in the meantime we want these good performances to continue.”
