RigoniEmpoli coach Marco Giampaolo has admitted that his side are in a crisis but saw an improved display in their 1-0 defeat to Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon.

Luca Rigoni netted the decisive goal for the Grifone as Empoli continued their slide down the Serie A table.

“We are in crisis of results, but not in terms of performances,” Giampaolo told Rai Sport.

“The second half was crucial, we have created good chances but we were unable to equalise.”

Riccardo Saponara began the game on the bench but Giampaolo reassured fans that it was not a tactical decision.

“He had a fever up until yesterday, I made the decision for the benefit of the team,” Giampaolo added. “His value is indisputable.”

The result moved Genoa five points clear of the relegation zone while Empoli remain rooted in mid table.
