Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2 – 0 Roma
Lucas Vazquez made an immediate impact from the bench to help Real Madrid reach the Champions League quarter finals with a 2-0 win over Roma.
In a match which the Giallorossi will rue a number of golden opportunities to keep themselves alive, it was ultimately the 60th minute substitute, Vazquez, who would provide the ball for a routine Cristiano Ronaldo finish.
Wojciech Szczesny played a vital role in keeping the Italians in the tie well into the second half while Mohamed Salah will be disappointed he was unable to cap off his impressive attacking contributions with a finish when it counted.

After a relatively quiet first half where he largely watched Roma fail to hit the target, when called upon in the second half, he made a number of key saves to ensure the tie was never in doubt.

A mixed night with a number of wasted balls going forward while being in amongst a number of physical challenges, earning yellow for an awful tackle on El Shaarawy after losing out to Digne in an earlier clash.

Provided an ever-present solid figure in defence with a relatively comfortable night with the exception of Roma’s counter-attacks.
Sergio Ramos – 5.5 – Unconvincing
Caught out in the first half by Roma’s speed in attack with what was not his most convincing match in defence.
Marcelo – 5.5 – Mixed Bag
Provided a number of strong runs into the final third, producing a powerful drive that went close to an opener. However the wide defensive player was caught out of position a number of times in the first half and at times struggled to contain Salah.
Luka Modric – 6.5 – Dangerous
Looked dangerous every time he had the ball, causing a number of scares for Roma from outside the box and managing to produce two long range shots which were deflected wide.
Casemiro – 6.5 – Wall
A strong midfield presence, central to Real’s dominance in possession breaking down attacks and making it difficult for Roma to apply any kind of sustained pressure to their final third of the pitch.
Toni Kroos – 6.5 – Maestro
Demanded more touches than any Real player, with the majority of attacks coming down the left-hand side. Central to Madrid’s possession without making any crucial blows to Roma’s defence.
James Rodriguez – 7 – Involved
Limited to half-chances in the first forty-five minutes however became involved in numerous attacks throughout the final half, providing strong link-up play and finishing for Madrid’s second goal.
Gareth Bale – 7 – Provider
For the first hour, prior to his substitution, looked to be Roma’s biggest threat in creating a number of opportunities down the wing, with his dangerous crosses unlucky to have been met with a finish.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 7 – Central
Having been kept relatively quiet in the first half, Ronaldo grew into the game with a number of shots on goals before produce a solid finish for Real’s opener and going on to provide an assist for James Rodriguez.
Lucas Vazquez (61 mins) – 7.5 – Impact
Had an incredible impact off the bench, beating Digne down the right to cross in to Ronaldo for Real’s opening goal. Should have had two assists had it not been for a shockingly uncharacteristic miss from Ronaldo.
