Rudiger Roma BATEDespite struggling earlier in the season, Antonio Rudiger is pleased he joined Roma last year.

On loan from Stuttgart, the German international admitted he made mistakes when he first joined the Giallorossi.

“Things didn’t start in the best way for me here, because I arrived with an injury,” Rudiger told reporters while on international duty with Germany.

“I think back to the game against Torino, where I made a mistake, and at that time it was really tough for me.

“But I was never afraid to keep going. I knew that I had to grow up and improve. I am really happy here. At no moment did I doubt my decision to come to Roma.

“I think that I have proved what I can do, so now it’s up to others to decide whether I stay at Roma. I am very relaxed on this issue.”

Rudiger is currently with Germany ahead of their friendlies against England and Italy, and the defender is keen to play against some of his club teammates.

“As I am now living in Rome, obviously playing against the Azzurri is a special test for me,” Rudiger added. “I hope to play against a few of my club teammates, but my main focus is on having a good game and winning in front of our home fans.

“I feel at ease in the centre-back role, but I have played right-back with Stuttgart, Germany and Roma. I have no problems in either role, so I will play wherever the coach wants me.

“I think that I have improved over the last few months. It’s still a bit too early now to talk about my chances of making it to Euro 2016.”
