Hellas Verona - Genoa Pierluigi GolliniHellas Verona’s young shot-stopper, Pierluigi Gollini, won high praise after helping his side to a miraculous 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The match was Gollini’s big return home having spent the majority of his youth career at the Viola, and he excelled between the sticks as he was one of the primary reasons as to why Verona were able to snatch a point.

He’s still relatively inexperienced, too, as this was only his 20th Serie A appearance, but he is definitely making strides with his development.

Fiorentina were able to muster five shots on target for the 20-year-old to deal with, and although Mauro Zarate scored through a deflected effort, it definitely wasn’t a blemish on his gleaming record come the final whistle.

He was adept at reading the game and confident in the air, and although he’s part of a class of talented young goalkeepers in Italy, he might be one to watch out for in the future with regards to the national team.

Gollini’s international experience extends only as far as Under-19 level for Italy, with four caps under his belt.

The likes of Mattia Perin and Simone Scuffet can claim more experience on the international scene, but fellow starlet Gollini cut his teeth over in England as he featured for Manchester United’s youth teams.

As we all know, goalkeepers are subject to slightly different routines either side of the channel and it remains to be seen whether an exposure to different styles can benefit him.

Reacting almost impossibly quickly to deny a fierce Nikola Kalinic volley, he’ll be looking to frustrate Carpi this weekend in the forthcoming relegation scrap.
