AC Milan 2-1 at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Sunday afternoon.

Milan made a fast start to the match and opened the scoring through a Luiz Adriano penalty in the fifth minute. Yet, just before half-time Mauricio Pinilla’s spectacular effort pulled La Dea level. In the second-half Alejandro Gomez gave Atalanta sealed the win in the 62nd minute.

In the third minute of the match the Rossoneri were awarded a penalty for a stupid handball committed by Guglielmo Stendardo. Adriano comfortably tucked the penalty past Marco Sportiello.

Moments later Alejandro Gomez had the chance to equalise when his header following Mauricio Pinilla’s chipped cross was deflected just wide by Ignazio Abate.

Two minutes before half-time Atalanta equalised. A poor clearance from a corner was headed straight back into the penalty area by Andrea Masiello and was diverted into the net by a brilliant bicycle kick from Pinilla.

After the interval, La Dea took the lead. Alessandro Diamanti’s cross was headed down by Jasmin Kurtic into the path of Marten de Roon who slid the ball over to Gomez, who whipped his shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

15 minutes before full-time Mario Balotelli’s driven free-kick was superbly saved by Sportiello. Moments later Jeremy Menez’s deflected shot was cleared off the line by Luca Cigarini.

The result leaves Atalanta in 12th place whereas Milan stay in sixth in the table, with their hopes of Champions League football next season all but over.
