Atalanta stunned opponents Roma in a 3-3 blockbuster at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in their Sunday morning Serie A thriller.

Lucas Digne and Radja Nainggolan gave Roma a lead and Atalanta hit back through Marco D’Alessandro and two for Marco Borriello but Francesco Totti levelled in the dying minutes.

The first real chance of the game presented itself to Alessandro Florenzi, who exchanged passes with Mohamed Salah but then saw his final effort scrambled away. Marco Borriello, playing against his former club, had a good sight of goal but sent his shot wide of the far post. Alejandro Gomez slashed a great opportunity over the crossbar; only for Diego Perotti to do exactly the same at the other end.

The Argentine made amends shortly after, exchanging passes with Lucas Digne and the Frenchman finishing into the bottom corner; Marco Sportiello unfortunate having got a glove on it. Radja Nainggolan then put the visitors firmly in the driving seat, running onto the end of a lay-off from Salah and finishing accurately into the bottom corner.

However, thoughts of dominance were quickly dispelled when former Roma man Marco D’Alessandro bundled the pass from Borriello over the line. The striker then completed a wonderful comeback, left unmarked when the corner came in only needing a touch to put it beyond Wojciech Szczesny. In the second half Borriello went one better, turning the ball from Gomez past both Ervin Zukanovic and Szczesny into the bottom corner.

The 33 year-old then squandered the chance to bag his hat-trick, but skied his shot over the bar from the middle of the box. Dzeko had further chances to score but again was wayward, denied from close range by Sportiello. Francesco Totti came on and scored the all important equaliser five minutes from time to salvage a point.
