Carpi on Thursday night.

The Biancorossi defended stoutly all night and limited the chances Milan had to shots from range and speculative headers from corners.

“I didn’t expect a different game, as I knew Carpi were good at closing down the spaces and defending,” said Brocchi to Sky Sport Italia.

“The team tried to create, I think we had about 75-80 per cent possession. That might not mean quality of football, but we did take control of the match.

“I think what we lacked this evening was the finishing. We put balls into the box and tried to create chances, but were missing some of the determination to finish them.

“Our strikers’ movement was poor they were too close together all night, tonight is a step backwards as we did not win, Milan need to win. Winning was never going to be easy but we need to work hard now. ”

Finally, Brocchi criticised the conduct of Carlos Bacca after the striker stared down the coach whilst being substituted for Jeremy Menez.

“I am disappointed he didn’t shake Menez’s hand. At that moment he was angry, he reacted badly and it mustn’t happen again, but as I said the worst part was not shaking hands with his teammates.”
